STKSR 2011, International Seminar on Chemical Engineering

Two months again, there will be an International Seminar on Chemical Engineering in Bandung, Indonesia. It is an annual seminar on Chemical Engineering “Soehadi Reksowardojo 2011″, STKSR 2011. This international seminar, which will be held in Bandung on October 5-7, 2011, is also in conjuction with Commemoration of the 70th Chemical Engineering Higher Education in Indonesia.
The theme for STKSR 2011 is “Bioenergy, Biobased Product and Process Developments”. This topic is really related to the current global issue. Nowadays, many experts are exploring this global issue with various researches. The main objective of this international seminar is “to create a comprehensive synergy among various aspects in Chemical Engineering that hold great promise for the the advancement of research and development.”
The higher education in chemical engineer in Indonesia was founded in 1941. You should know that the first higher education in chemical engineering in Indonesia was established at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

In fairness, you probably haven't got high hopes for this year's movie adaptation of The Smurfs. Why would you? After all, the Garfield movie was horrible and the Scooby-Doo movie was horrible and the Marmaduke movie was horrible and Transformers and Yogi Bear and Alvin and the Chipmunks were all horrible. Why set yourself up for another disappointment?

The funniest moments in “The Smurfs,” a new 3-D movie featuring the old gang familiar from the 1980s television series, are either raunchy or scandalous, as much as that is possible in a half-animated film with a PG rating. There’s a scene in which a Scottish Smurf in a kilt recreates the Marilyn Monroe subway grate display. There’s a rude bit involving a portable toilet.

In general, it’s hard to recommend The Smurfs to anyone but parents looking to take their children out for an innocent time at the movies. That said, given the mixed messages of the narrative as well as the lengthy focus on an adult storyline, you might want to take the kids to Winnie the Pooh instead. Undoubtedly, some older moviegoers will still journey to the theater and enjoy the slapstick action in The Smurfs but most filmgoers who enjoyed the cartoon (or comic strips) as a kid will very likely be left with the taste of sour Smurfberries in their mouth.

Battlefield 3

Electronic Arts said that preorders for Battlefield 3 were tracking 10 times higher than those of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 at a similar point before release. Today, the UK arm of online retailer Amazon released preorder comparisons of its own, indicating that the multiplatform Battlefield 3 is outpacing its true predecessor, the 2005 PC first-person shooter Battlefield 2, by an even larger number. At a similar point before its release date, Battlefield 3 preorders at the retailer have increased 2,302 percent over those of Battlefield 2.

While that's good news for EA's accountants, Amazon paints a less concrete picture of its chances to topple the latest installment in Activision's reigning first-person shooter series (and explicit target of Battlefield 3), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. As of press time, the retailer's best-selling preorder page lists the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of Modern Warfare 3 as the first- and third-most preordered titles, respectively. The PC and Xbox 360 editions of Battlefield 3 are in second and fourth place, with the PS3 version trailing in ninth. The PC version of Modern Warfare 3 ranked 29th on the Amazon preorder chart.

As for how Modern Warfare 3 is doing compared to last year's Black Ops, Amazon said preorders for the upcoming game are up 321 percent over Treyarch's 2010 effort. That bodes well for Modern Warfare 3, as Black Ops proved to be the best-selling game in the history of the Amazon UK site.

The retailer also weighed in on a handful of other anticipated sequels' reservation rates, with Uncharted 3 receiving the biggest bump over its past iteration. Drake's Deception preorders are currently up 488 percent over those for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Other games receiving a marked bump over their predecessors include Batman: Arkham City (up 349 percent), FIFA 12 (up 325 percent), and Gears of War 3 (up 216 percent).

Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 Hands-On Preview

Konami unveiled Pro Evolution Soccer 2012's new feature set, promising--among other things--improved animation; AI updates for more realistic player positioning; and tighter, more accurate controls. Last year saw PES catching up with its archrival FIFA but not surpassing it--at least in terms of critical reception. Is this year's string of updates enough to see PES to glory or is it destined for a humiliating relegation?

Before you jump into a match, PES asks you to create a player that you can make as realistic or as horrifying as you like. There are lots of customization options, ranging from your player's body and facial characteristics to his kit color and poses. Such is the wealth of options that it's all too easy to create some horrific-looking players. There's a simple pleasure to be found in seeing a big-eared guy with a perm, blue goatee, and a bright pink strip run around the pitch, even if your opponents might not agree. On the more serious side of things, you also have the option of adjusting the level of pass support; that is, the degree to which passes automatically home onto receiving players. This is a welcome addition, particularly given how tricky the new passing system was in PES 11. Tweaking extends to the AI too, so you can specify if it should automatically pass, shoot, or clear the ball when you're not in direct control.

With customization done, you move onto Training Challenge; a mode that carries over from PES 11 with a few tweaks. There are trophies awarded for each training challenge you complete--bronze, silver, or gold--depending on your performance. For example, one challenge has you taking penalties, with the goal divided up into three sections that are worth a different number of points. The more points you score, the better the trophy you receive. Each challenge is divided up into difficulty levels, ranging from one to three stars. This means there's a lot to play through, so if you're the type of person that has to complete everything, expect to spend a lot of time in Training Challenge.
Most of the changes in PES 12 have been made to AI players on the pitch, via improvements to make their actions seem more realistic. The first is AI overlap, which is designed to improve the performance of players off the ball, so long as you've enabled AI assists. As we played the ball to an open area of the pitch, we noticed players running forward to receive it, making intelligent runs that allowed us to set up chances on goal. If you choose not to enable AI assists, you're given greater control of players off the ball, allowing you to control two players simultaneously. Doing so is a little fiddly, though, requiring you to highlight another player by pointing the right stick in his direction and pressing down on it to select him.

While this feature can be very tricky to use out on the open field, it really comes into its own during set pieces, such as corners and free kicks. While lining up a corner, we could move another player in the box at the same time, making use of space and ensuring someone was on the receiving end of the ball. Further enhancements have been made to penalties, which are now much simpler to take. One button controls the height and power of the kick, while another controls the direction. By holding down R1, we could perform finesse finishes, such as chips, which is something that would have required well-timed double-taps of the analog stick in PES 11. Also gone is the side-on penalty view that has now been replaced by a more traditional viewpoint in front of the goal.

Various enhancements to dummy and diagonal runs made our time on the pitch more enjoyable, with our AI teammates drawing out defenders and running across the field rather than just down one side of it. We noticed our defense was tighter too, with players marking the opposition, automatically chasing opponents down and launching tackles. This extended to our team's formation. Players maintained position, allowing us to make better judgments and defend our half of the pitch with more confidence. Combined, the AI improvements made each match more enjoyable, with fewer goals conceded from frustrating AI mistakes.

While this year's updates aren't entirely revolutionary, they build upon the substantial improvements introduced in PES 11. Matches were smooth, exciting, a lot of fun, and felt noticeably faster than those in FIFA. It remains to be seen whether PES can catch up with FIFA's excellent online features, but we were left suitably impressed, making this year's battle between the two football games that little bit closer. Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 is due for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 14. Look out for more coverage on GameSpot soon.

Pemilihan Putra Putri Batik Nusantara 2011

Kementerian Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata bekerjasama dengan Ikatan Pencinta Batik Nusantara memprakarsai pelenggaraan kegiatan Pemilihan Putra Putri Batik Nusantara 2011, dengan tujuan untuk menumbuhkan rasa cinta dan kebanggaan akan warisan budaya Indonesia khususnya di kalangan generasi muda. Babak Final diselenggarakan pada 28 September 2011.


Indonesia sejak zaman dahulu telah dikenal oleh bangsa-bangsa di dunia akan kekayaan budayanya. Salah satu karya budaya bangsa yang sangat dikagumi oleh bangsa lain adalah Batik. Pada tahun 2009 Unesco telah mengakui Batik Indonesia sebagai warisan budaya dunia dan memberikan penghargaan sebagai “Intangible Heritage of Humanity”. Oleh karena itu sebagai warisan budaya bangsa, Batik perlu senantiasa dilestarikan terutama oleh generasi muda agar batik tidak punah oleh perkembangan zaman dan teknologi.

Pendaftaran calon peserta dimulai pada 1 - 22 Agustus 2011. Masa karantina 25 - 27 September 2011 kemudian babak final pada 28 September 2011. Persyaratan untuk menjadi finalis pemilihan Putra Putri Batik Nusantara 2011 adalah sebagai berikut:

• Belum menikah/belum memiliki anak
• Tinggi badan untuk pria minimal 170 cm, tinggi badan untuk wanita minimal 165cm (tanpa alas kaki).
• Berpenampilan menarik/cantik, cerdas, dan berkepribadian Indonesia.
• Memiliki pengetahuan dan berwawasan luas tentang Batik
• Mampu berkomunikasi dalam bahasa asing dan memiliki ketrampilan khusus (membatik) akan memberikan nilai tambah.
